It's all here on
San Juan IslandSan Juan Island is anchored right in the crook of the border with Canada, the queen of the Northwest's most beautiful archipelago.
From the top of her highest hills on a clear night you can see the lights of Victoria, Vancouver and the loom of Seattle to the south.
At times, it is hard to believe that such beauty can exist so close to so many people. The San Juans are not undiscovered, but are the least disturbed and best loved islands in the Lower 48.
There are no stoplights on San Juan Island. You will hear not sirens and honking horns, but the cry of an eagle hunting breakfast, the gronk of a blue heron returning to his roost, or if you're lucky, the electric whoosh of our resident Orca whales as they follow the salmon schools past our shores.
Friday Harbor, the county seat and largest town in the islands, is a classic seaside village reflecting our nautical heritage. Although the canneries and fleets of wooden fishing boats are gone, the Port of Friday Harbor is now the gateway to the sea for residents and visitors alike. With seasonal orca/nature voyages, kayak trips, charter boat operations, seaplane service, and a variety of ferries to both the mainland and Victoria, B.C.; Friday Harbor is your port of entry to the wonders of the Salish Sea.
Roche Harbor at the north end of the island is one of the loveliest and most secure all-weather anchorages in the world. Kayaks, nature tours, boat rides, and fishing trips let visitors experience the beautiful quieter side of San Juan Island.
